3 Sure Fire Ways to Generate More Power off the Tee

Power can be elusive for golfers.

Is true power generated by technology, power, or something else? Every golfer wants more strength, more distance, more stability. Here are 3 ways to create the energy you've only dreamed of.

1. Rotation of the spine.

Rotate your spine every time you swing your club. What does power have to do with it? Every time you stabilize your hips, electricity is generated to create a full back twist with spinal rotation. Most golfers have heard of the X-Factor. This, of course, refers to the difference between the movements of the hips and the spine. Increase the rotation of the spine and a new sense of strength will appear.

2. Basic exercises.

Your center of gravity is at the “core” of your body, in the area around your torso and pelvis. When you have good core stability, your pelvic, lower back, hips, and abdominal muscles work in harmony. They support your spine. The kernel is the performance zone. This is where every movement begins. A well-developed core can improve power transmission, increase neuromuscular efficiency, and reduce the incidence of injury from overuse. A weak core can make you prone to poor posture and injury.

3. Plyometrics.

Plyometrics is an exercise in which muscles contract eccentrically and then concentrically. Simply put, a muscle is stretched (i.e., under tension) before contracting. Horizontal medicine ball rolling and golf swing are good examples. According to a recent study published in the Journal of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), amateur golfers have significantly increased their driving distances in just eight weeks of strength training that includes plyometrics. The average driving distance in the combined training group increased by 4.3%, average clubhead speed by 1.5%.

Once you incorporate these three techniques into your exercise regimen, you will never again be annoyed by the distance you travel or by generating electricity.
